I arrived in Rome yesterday afternoon and immediately went out to do a little shooting. The forecast said today would be rainy, so I wanted to take advantage of the afternoon sun. I didn't shoot too much because for some reason, Rome is just cram packed with tourists right now. I couldn't shoot the Trevi Fountain which is only about two blocks from my hotel because it's covered with scaffolds for renovation. Despite that, there were so many people in the square that you couldn't hardly see the even the construction barriers. I did one shot of the edifice facing the square because it had nice light on it:
The Facade of Trevi is the only part not covered by tourists or scaffolds:
I went from there to the Spanish Steps. Ha. Once again so many people that you couldn't even see he steps:
Again, the only way to get a shot is to look upwards:
I went on down to Piazza del Popolo to see if it was any better there. Nope, full of people. Again, shooting up was the only way to score:
I did get a nice shot of the clouds with silhouetted trees and a backlight Mackerel Sky:
Today, sure enough, the clouds and drizzle came back. I went to the Vatican thinking that I would do some inside shooting, but guess what, a 3 hour long line of people waiting to get in to St Peters. So I bailed on that and went to the Pantheon, also full of people, so all I could shoot were a couple statues:
And since I was at the Pantheon, I stopped into Tazza D'Oro for a Cappuccino. I can't believe t he most famous cafe in Rome still only charges Euro $1.10 for a Cap!
Oh, and I did manage to add another knocker to my collection:
Tomorrow afternoon I'm off to Africa. I'll have about 24 hours of travel through Doha and Dar es Salaam to get to Arusha, Tanzania where I will base for a couple weeks.
