Wildlife Camp

We arrived in South Luangwa National Park yesterday afternoon and are camping at Wildlife Camp. The campground lives up to it's name. Before we even had our tents set up, we saw Elephants, Hippos, Giraffe and lots of Monkeys. You have to be careful where you set your tent up because Hippos come through the camp at night when they come up to the grasslands to feed. Indeed, I hear them bellowing around the campsite in the middle of the night. This morning I did a game drive that started at 0600 I was greeted by a beautiful sunrise, and shortly after saw a Lioness and cubs, but she was spooked away by another vehicle before I could setup a shot. I got lots of good Elephant behavior, but the real highlight of the morning was a nice Leopard that came in very close. I had it all to myself for a few minutes before other Safari vehicles arrived. This afternoon I will go out for another game drive that will include some after dark spotting. Tomorrow, I'll do it all over again.

A nice way to start the day:

We aren't supposed to go wading in the river, wonder why?
